Wow! This was quite the introduction, as this was my first time at Compton Verney in Warwickshire. Wedding Photography for Cat & Rob’s big day was an absolute delight. Full of fun, LOADS of laughter and plenty of quirkiness! …which I love! From the bouncy castle (including a first bounce instead of first dance), a vintage bus (acentric bus driver included), to the outstanding “Up” themed wedding ceremony. Maybe I was a little spoiled on my maiden trip to Compton Verney. I don’t know, but I can not wait to try again.
1) Please tell me how you first met?
Cat: We met in 2005 through a mutual friend and a love of Geology. Our relationship intensified over the summer of 2006. Rob was then and still is my best friend.
Rob: She was at my mates 18th Birthday party in 2005, I was mesmerised by her at first sight but didn’t pluck up the courage to talk to her until a year later when we somehow ended up chatting online using MSN. the rest is history.

2) When was it you knew they were the one?
Cat: I don’t think there was one particular thing – I could be myself from day 1, and he didn’t run away in my moments of madness/ grief/over-excitement. I was head-over-heels, and I still am.
Rob: lots of reasons. I can be myself and always want to be with her (even on the stag doo…lol). I can’t imagine not sharing my life with her, e.g. if I am apart and I see something the first thing that pops into my head is “it’s cool but not as cool as being able to see it with Cat”.

3) Could you give us the story of the proposal?
Cat: We had come back from the most idyllic holiday in Turkey and I had to teach the next day. Rob can’t keep secrets!!! I knew he was up to something when he met me after work – with my birthday being 2 weeks later I assumed he had been super organised…! We were snuggled up in bed later … he told me he had got me something and asked if I wanted it now, or if I wanted to wait (I think he might have burst if I had said wait!) He presented me with a small blue box tied up in white ribbon… It was empty!!!!! Whilst I was laughing my head off, he had ‘found’ the contents! It was very normal (albeit surreal), and very us.
Rob: above pretty much sums it up… couldn’t keep the secret longer than I did!

4) If you don’t mind sharing, can you tell me something quirky, funny or silly about your partner?
Cat: Rob
Rob: Cat

5) What is your perfect day together?
Cat: Any day spent adventuring – climbing mountains, running through mud, exploring cities… it doesn’t matter, we will always have fun.
Rob: one that does not involve cleaning the house! we always have fun no matter what we do (lol even cleaning).

6) Apart from the obvious, what are you most looking forward to on your wedding day?
Cat & Rob: Having all of our family and friends together; eating cake; space hoppers on the bouncy castle…

7) What was it that inspired you to go for the theme or the decor you chose for your wedding?
Cat: We didn’t have a theme – the brief was for the day to be relaxed, informal and fun. The scheme such as it is has stemmed from my shoes….. which are amazing!
Rob: no input really on theme/decor… just that I wanted to have a big party and share the day with family and friends.

8) Please tell me one thing you wish you had known at the beginning of your wedding planning process, that you could pass on to future bride’s reading this blog?
Cat: Just relax – the most important thing is the person you are marrying. And ALWAYS have a makeup trial!!

9) When searching, what were you were looking for in a wedding venue?
Cat: If it had been left to me, we would have had a quiet ceremony in the local registry office then had a massive party (venue unknown as I never got that far). Rob wanted a ‘proper’ wedding & reception. So I agreed as long as I had a white room as my canvas. Boy did he find me one!!

10) Could you tell me the process you went through when you were looking for a wedding photographer?
Cat: We are not poesy and I would rather dance than smile for the camera, so it made sense that we looked for a photographer who could capture the natural love and laughter of the day. We both loved Duncan’s folio both for the style and the real moments his reportage wedding photography captured. he was free on the day so boom
Rob: agreed, we want the day to be natural and as such we want the photographs to be the same. looking at the portfolio, Duncan’s photos are not only stunning but capture the real feelings and emotions of the day. they are not staged photos.
