Warwick’s history stretches back 1100 years to 914AD when Ethelfleda, daughter of Alfred the Great, as [/wpcol_1quarter] [wpcol_3quarter_end id=”” class=”” style=””][/wpcol_3quarter_end]a defence against the Danish invaders, they began work a traditional Anglo-Saxon “burh”. It began as an earthy mound but by the 13th Century the building work continued and the creation of Warwick and it’s castle Castle as we know it today was well on the way. Warwick Castle is one of the most complete and certainly one of the most striking castles in the country and has been inhabited continuously since the middle ages until recently, by the Earls of Warwick. In 1694, the Great Fire of Warwick destroyed much of the medieval town. Consequently, many of the town centre’s buildings are of late 17th and early 18th century origin and have the lovely Tudor look.
