Gorgeous documentary wedding photography in a marquee

This year I have been given the opportunity to attend many stunningly beautiful, stylish and unique weddings. Those are three words I would use to describe Grace & Ben’s wedding! I love it when people go to town with their wedding and let their creative juices flow. Grace and Ben really put their own stamp on their wedding and made it their own. Rustic marquee weddings such as this seem to do away with the stuffiness that can sometimes be associated with a wedding. The guests are able to relax and let their hair down and as a result, there was an amazing atmosphere. Whenever people are relaxed and enjoying themselves, Documentary Wedding Photography becomes easy. The guests let their guard down, forget I am there and then it’s like shooting fish in a barrel! Happy days! Haha!

Their Love Story

1) Please tell me how you first met?
We met at college, nearly 9 years ago, and our friendship groups use to meet for lunch in the same corner of the school canteen. We ended up talking and spending our free lessons together and after about 3 month’s we went on our first date on November 9th.

2) When was it you knew they were the one?
It just kind of happened!

3) Could you give us the story of the proposal?
We went to Prague for a few days to celebrate the anniversary of it being 6 years since we started dating. Ben kept on dragging me into jewellery shops and asking me what kind of ring I liked if he was ever to buy me one, I got a bit irritated as it wasn’t part of my sightseeing itinerary and told Ben if he wanted to propose he should have thought about it before the holiday and to stop wasting my time looking at rings, little did I know he had thought about it and there was an engagement ring hidden in a pair of his socks in his suitcase back at the hotel!
On the first day of arriving in Prague, I got us a bit lost, but we stumbled across a love lock bridge near the John Lennon wall of Love and Peace, I had always wanted to put a padlock on one of these and Ben suggested that we do it on the 9th November to mark our anniversary. He said it was a bit cheesy but we should get someone to film it so we could show everyone back home.
On the evening of the 9th November, we went to the bridge and came across some fellow English tourists who we asked to video us putting the lock on. Ben seemed very distracted and I thought he was fumbling around in his pocket for some gloves as it was freezing, great timing I thought. I threw the key into the river and when I turned around Ben was on one knee with the most amazing ring in a box.
I was totally shocked and ended up having a little cry, but I didn’t cry as much as the lady who filmed it for us.

4) If you don’t mind sharing, can you tell me something quirky, funny or silly about your partner?
We wouldn’t even know where to start, there isn’t much normal about either of us!

5) What is your perfect day together?
A day with a mixture of fun and relaxation, with plenty of food and maybe a drink or two as well.

6) Apart from the obvious, what are you most looking forward to on your wedding day?
A good party!

7) What was it that inspired you to go for the theme or the decor you chose for your wedding?
We have both grown up in the countryside, with Grace being particularly fond of the outdoors. We wanted to have the ceremony and reception in locations which were significant to us. Neither of us wanted anything too elaborate, or complicated so a marquee in Grace’s horse paddock seemed a perfect idea.

8) Please tell me one thing you wish you had known at the beginning of your wedding planning process, that you could pass on to future bride’s reading this blog?
A marquee wedding is not an easy option! We thought it would save us loads of hassle, but that really hasn’t been the case. We have had to source all our own vendors, including caterers who can cook outdoors powered by a generator with no running water down to a toilet block. These are a few things which tend to come as part of a package when going to a wedding reception venue.
We also didn’t know about wedding insurance, and how much reassurance it can provide when worrying about things which could go wrong.

10) Could you tell me the process you went through when you were looking for a wedding photographer?
Grace had initially contacted a photographer who had shot at her work colleagues wedding and we really liked the photo’s from. When that photographer advised they were getting married the same weekend we went into a bit of a panic, however, through recommendations from that photographer and other photographer’s we saw Duncan Cox Photography and loved the style of photos.
