I love my job when I get to photograph places like The Elms Hotel at Abberley in Worcestershire. Wedding photography becomes easy when there is a stunning background in every direction you turn. The LARGE, floor to ceiling windows let in such beautiful light. I love this venue!! …and when you couple this with such an absolutely LOVELY couple such as Ellie & Ross, you have a winning combination. I hope I get more opportunities to visit The Elms Hotel if it means I can take more photos like this!
Congratulations Ellie & Ross, I wish you all the best for the future. 🙂
1) Please tell me how you first met?
We first met at a mutual friends house party about 4 years ago.
R – I remember seeing Ellie’s big blue eyes and smile thinking I had to talk to her, then spent the night plucking up the courage until one of Ellie’s friends stepped in giving us a nudge in the right direction.
E – I had to leave early but insisted on giving Ross my number!

2) When was it you knew they were the one? Was is something in particular they did?
E- I knew Ross was the one pretty early on the relationship. It just always felt so right when we were together as if we were always meant to be.
R- same here, I’ve always felt really comfortable with Ellie, we have lots in common and she puts up with me!

3) Could you give us the story of the proposal?
E- Ross and I enjoy mountain biking and one of our favourite places is the Wyre forest. We were riding through the forest and Ross raced ahead of me (which he does a lot!). I lost sight of him and dismounted to walk as the ground fell away very steeply to the side. I went round the bend and found Ross on the floor apparently having fallen off his bike. He’s groaning as I rush over to check he’s okay. Then he gets up on one knee with a ring! It was such a shock, I really didn’t expect it! Totally worth the heart attack he nearly gave me thinking he’d really hurt himself!

4) If you don’t mind sharing, can you tell me something quirky, funny or silly about your partner?
E- Ross has a great sense of humour and is really sarcastic, even now I can’t always tell if he’s being serious or not!
R- Ellie loves rabbits, she has so much rabbit related stuff!! It does make gift buying easy though!

5) What is your perfect day together?
Our perfect day would be going out for a walk somewhere in the countryside, then coming home and playing PlayStation together as we are total nerds!

6) Apart from the obvious, what are you most looking forward to on your wedding day?
E- I’m really excited to hear the speeches. Ross and his best man Ryan are both great at that sort of thing so I know they’ll be hilarious and memorable!
R- I’m really looking forward to the speech, I’ve been working on it for a while and am really pleased with it! Also the food, it was really good when we went for our taster!

7) What was it that inspired you to go for the theme or the decor you chose for your wedding?
We didn’t really have a fixed idea for a theme, it sort of developed as we went along and just picked things we liked. It ended up being a bit vintage which suited the venue well.

8) Please tell me one thing you wish you had known at the beginning of your wedding planning process, that you could pass on to future bride’s reading this blog?
E- I would say try to be organised and get things booked as soon as you can because it’ll take away some of the stress as you get closer to the day. I had so many lists! Also do try not to get too wrapped up in details and stress yourself out. It’s easy to get overwhelmed so try to take a step back and remember the important part is actually getting married because on the day that’s all you’ll care about!
R- my advice would be, just do as you’re told!

9) When searching, what were you were looking for in a wedding venue?
We wanted somewhere reasonably close to home so people wouldn’t have to travel too far. We sort of stumbled across The Elms Hotel, but I’m so glad we did as it was perfect. It was a beautiful setting but still felt really relaxed and intimate.

10) Could you tell me the process you went through when you were looking for a wedding photographer?
We got some recommendations from various people and put together a list. Ross and I looked through it separately and both picked Duncan as our favourite. After meeting him it was a no brainer! We really loved his style photography using natural light and the way his photographs seemed to tell a story.
