Unfortunately, for Amy & Alex, their wedding was another victim of this horrible pandemic. In the sense that the much anticipated, highly planned wedding of their dreams could not go ahead due to restrictions. They instead had to find a way to celebrate their wedding in the best way they could, while staying within the law and not spreading the virus. What they managed to put together was nothing short of wonderful!
The day was based at St Helen’s Church in the centre of Worcester. Wedding Photography was always going to be a challenge due to everyone was required to wear a mask. So capturing facial expressions wasn’t easy. However, emotions were always not far from the surface and I was able to capture some beautiful moments. I think being locked away from the people you love does that to people. This made it all the more special to witness. I’d be lying if I said my eyes didn’t fill up here and there. haha!
As you might be able to see, I obviously wasn’t able to offer the usual amount of cover on a wedding day, but I think I more than captured the story.
Congratulations Alex and Amy! You are an amazing couple and I wish you all the best in the future.
1) Please tell me how you first met?
We first met at the Christian Union at the University of Worcester. We then ended up at the same church and things just grew from there…

2) When was it you knew they were the one?
Personally, I don’t believe in ‘the one’ type of thing. There wasn’t a ‘defining moment’ for us. We both loved each others company and spending time together and things slowly developed from there.

3) Could you give us the story of the proposal?
We were planning to take a trip to Amy’s uncle over in Brussels, and at the LAST minute, I lost my passport. Needless to say, it was a very stressful time trying to find it. I’d hidden the ring & box in my room but not to the extent where I’d pictured her rooting through all my belongings. After a painfully long time, we’d managed to find it and all was well. Amy and I have always wanted to go travelling, and it’s a big part of who we are as a couple.
In Brussels, there was a model Europe that we went around, going through all the landmarks. Throughout it, I said ‘Would you go here with me…? It was at the end when I proposed and said ‘Will go everywhere with me? (To which she was rather oblivious as to what was happening), then I said ‘Will you Marry me?’.

4) If you don’t mind sharing, can you tell me something quirky, funny or silly about your partner?
Amy drinks a ridiculous amount of tea, does that count?
I (Alex) have sleep ‘adventures’ as we’ve come to call them. Funny story; during our honeymoon I had one of these ‘sleep adventures’! We were glamping out in Wales (as we couldn’t originally go to Mexico due to Covid), and during the night I jumped up onto the bed and started grabbing the centre pole of the tent and proceeded to shake it, saying ‘we need to get out… Needless to say, by this point she already knew what she was marrying, so it’s her fault really!

5) What is your perfect day together?
Currently, having a chilled day, going on walks and playing games together. We’re quite relaxed.

6) Apart from the obvious, what are you most looking forward to on your wedding day?
We actually have already had our wedding! For us, it was having all of our closest family & friends together in one room to celebrate with. It was even more special considering the fact we got married during Covid and were only allowed 30 guests. I keep thinking back to the day and laughing at the surreal moment where my mum was playing drinking games with my school friends. Whoever thought that would happen?

7) What was it that inspired you to go for the theme or the decor you chose for your wedding?
As I mentioned previously, we’re rather chilled people. For us, it was much more about the ceremony and being married together with friends and family alongside us than the ‘look’ of the place. That being said, we went for a light & dark blue theme, with a lot of wooden decor around the place. It worked perfectly for us and looked fantastic.

8) Please tell me one thing you wish you had known at the beginning of your wedding planning process, that you could pass on to future bride’s reading this blog?
It can be done in shorter time frames! We went to a wedding fayre and a load of people were surprised that we were planning our wedding that was 8 months away. Really, it doesn’t need all of the stress alongside it. Just enjoy the process!

9) When searching, what were you were looking for in a wedding venue?
All we wanted was a large room to fit everyone in. We had originally booked a village hall close to the church, but due to Covid, we weren’t able to use it. Fortunately, our church had a second building that we were able to use. This worked amazingly as it felt even more personal and special to us. Being able to celebrate our marriage under God in a place that we know and love.
Despite this, we’re still planning to use the village hall once restrictions lift so we can then celebrate with our wider friends & family.

10) Could you tell me the process you went through when you were looking for a wedding photographer?
We were recommended by a work colleague. After looking at Duncan’s work, we immediately knew his style of photography was what we were looking for. We then had an initial meeting with him which helped us realise what we wanted. We loved the candid shots that he took on the day, and barely noticed he was there!
