The wedding of Clare & David was a special wedding for me. Not only because it was my first wedding of 2012 but it was my first winter wedding in the UK. While being based in Cyprus for the past 5 years, I have never had the chance to challenge myself with the tricky lighting conditions the low winter sun can bring. However, I am very used to working with a high contrast light from my years in Cyprus and being a skilled low light photographer (no camera mounted flash), I was more than up to it. In fact, I revelled in it!
The day itself began in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire. There was a slight bit of rain and as it was February, it was absolutely freezing cold. I started shooting at the the Crown & Cushion Hotel on the Chipping Norton High Street. The room itself was very dimly lit which was very challenging but ultimately rewarding. There was one window with a wall directly opposite limiting the light coming in. The room itself had a lovely warming lamp which helped me work my magic. The girls busied themselves with all the preparations but one thing seemed most important at that moment, and that was Gin! They were a great bunch of girls enjoying the moment…and why not!
Over to the Church and the rain was beginning to abate, which was good news. The church itself had a lovely high ceiling with large windows at the top, pouring light on to the proceedings. During the ceremony the sun broke through the clouds and beamed through, lighting the church up with glorious winter sunshine. This helped me tremendously with gaining stunning, atmospheric wedding photographs for Clare and David.
Once the ceremony was over and they were man and wife we exited the church for a few photographs. When we got outside there was a beautiful, resplendent rainbow waiting for us. I cannot help feeling this was amazing end to a wedding ceremony and some might say a good sign for their marriage.
With all the guests loaded onto the bus, we took the opportunity to do a winter wedding photoshoot, in the gorgeous Cotwold countryside, on the way to the reception. The sun arriving at the end of the ceremony proved to be perfect timing, enabling me to capture some stunning wedding photography for my customers. I was very lucky indeed considering the weather at the start of the day. I had a great day and cannot wait for many more winter weddings like this one. Good luck Clare & David for your future and may you have wedded bliss forever!
