Super stylish tipi wedding photography in Oxfordshire

Firstly, I would like to thank Sarah & Jim for giving me the opportunity to photograph their beautiful wedding. It was the first time I had had the chance to photograph an uber cool, rustic styled Tipi wedding and it was great fun. The wedding itself was held just a few miles from where I grew up, in the countryside just outside Banbury in Oxfordshire, so it was nice go back and reminisce a little. It was set on a working farm with breathtaking views looking out over the gorgeous Oxfordshire countryside. Being as the wedding was mid-September, they were certainly taking a risk with the good old English weather, but the risk paid off. Although a few of the photos show heavy cloud in the background, it remained dry and sunny all day and no one had to run for cover.  The design and decoration of the venue was absolutely exceptional. There was no stone left unturned in the thought process for the build up to their wedding and I believe this shows throughout. The hats are well and truly off for the amount of time and effort Sarah and her Mother put into it. It was stunning!

Their Love Story

1) Please tell me how you first met? The what, when, where’s and how’s?
Jim (or as he was known then, James) and Sarah first met 15 years ago when they both spent 10 weeks together on a small isolated island in Fiji, where they lived with 10 other volunteers on a Gap year project. Fast forward to 2011 and, after life had taken them in very different directions through university and working careers, they met up again and started dating. After an impromptu holiday to Egypt to visit Jim, Sarah quit her job in London to follow Jim to Egypt. They have since spent time living in Thailand and currently reside in the Caribbean, where Jim proposed in 2014.

2) When was it you knew they were the one? Was is something in particular they did?, Did they grind you down? (joke) etc. etc.
With a romance that was 11 years in the making, it’s fair to say Jim’s persistence paid off in the end!

3) Could you give us the story of the proposal? Please leave out no details…  (Was it a surprise?,  Was it elaborate?,  How did it make you feel?)
Jim surprised Sarah with a beautiful sunset proposal on one of their local beaches. Ever the photography professional, he of course arranged for a camera to capture the moment, and we enjoyed a bottle of champagne while the sun went down over the Caribbean sea.

4) Please share what you most love about each other?
While having extremely different personalities and tastes, we share a love of adventure and for following a slightly unconventional path in life. Having moved around the world together, we lean on each other when we are far away from family and friends, and can count on each other no matter what.

5) If you don’t mind sharing, can you tell me something quirky, funny or silly about your partner? Little habits, something they do…
Jim – It’s a random one, but Sarah has, for some reason, a complete inability to use online banking. She’s reset the logins so many times all the bank staff know her, and she’s now decided the system just ‘hates her’, as she swears she gets all the information right but still gets locked out every time. It’s now a running joke that I find funny and adorable and she finds utterly frustrating!
Sarah – Jim has a habit of making up songs about whatever he’s doing. Quite often there’ll be one while he’s cooking in the kitchen, or else just in the car or around our flat. They make me laugh as they’re so random and odd and I have no idea where they come from!

6) What is your perfect day together? (apart from the wedding day)
Spending a day together is a perfect day together! Our work schedules often see us working at opposite ends of the day so whenever we get chance to lie in together, go out for breakfast, relax and not go to work, it’s always special.

7) Apart from the obvious, what are you most looking forward to on your wedding day?
A big party with all our family and friends who we don’t get to see very often!

8) There are so many different wedding styles you can choose from. What is your favourite wedding trend at the moment?
I think our wedding style is quite popular at the moment – rustic, outdoors, relaxed and non-traditional. We’re not fussed about creating something that no one has done before, just putting our own feel on a day that feels like ‘us’ and that our guests can have a great time.

9) What was it that inspired you to go for the theme or the decor you chose for your wedding?
We were in love with the idea of having a tipi from the moment we saw one – everything else really built around that!  We were so lucky to stumble across our beautiful venue at Old Manor Farm, and have tried to keep things as natural and unfussy as possible. While many people will perhaps expect us to have some kind of ‘underwater’ or marine theme, we were keen to get away from this and keep it all fairly neutral, with the odd little dash of orange to liven things up!

10) Please tell me one thing you wish you had known at the beginning of your wedding planning process?
That once you hit the 3 month mark, time just disappears and suddenly you only have a couple of weeks to go! Get as much done as you can early on, because the ‘final’ details are actually more difficult and time consuming than the initial big decisions!
