A lovely family atmosphere for this Kilworth House Wedding
The wedding of Charlotte & Carl took place at the Town Hall on a very special day for the city of Leicester. Leicester City Football club were going to find out that weekend if they were champions of England. I have never seen so many flags and football related merchandise in all my life. It was in shop windows, pubs, hairdressers…everywhere! As I made my way through the city, I could feel the buzz of excitement everywhere and I could tell it was going to be a special day. Charlotte and Carl’s family were so lovely, kind and welcoming. Even though it was a small, intimate wedding, I was never short of people to photograph, as it was such a great atmosphere. Wedding Photography at Kilworth House Hotel was, as always, an absolute dream! This venue has to be one of my favourites. The combination of luxury, beautiful surroundings and some of the best light you will ever find, makes it one best around. Thank you for inviting me along on your wedding journey Charlotte & Carl! Their Love Story
1) Please tell me how you first met?
We met in 2010 in Camden, London whilst I was working as a shot girl for Jagermeister (oh to be young again) and the rest, as they say, is history.
2) When was it you knew they were the one?
We just clicked from the day we met, although Carl did fall asleep in the cinema on our first date. I am glad that I gave him another chance after that!
3) Could you give us the story of the proposal?
We had been in Edinburgh on holiday and were driving back down South and decided to stop off for lunch in Northumberland, Carl was adamant that we should go to Holy Island but just as we started to drive across the narrow access road between the sea the tide started to come in so we had to do a quick U-turn before we were stranded! After that failure, we decided to go and see the Sycamore Gap tree from the Robin Hood film which is by Hadrian’s Wall. Just as we pulled up in the car park the biggest snow blizzard started and went on for half an hour! By this point I just wanted to get back on the road but Carl persisted and decided to drive to Cawfields which is an old quarry and is beautiful! It was there that he decided to ask me to marry him and although I had my suspicions that he might it was a lovely location and luckily the snow had stopped! We then had a seven hour drive home so stopped of for a Burger King and prosecco at a service station to celebrate.
4) What is your perfect day together?
A family day outside trying to keep up with our little boy followed by an evening watching films always turn into the best days.
5) Apart from the obvious, what are you most looking forward to on your wedding day?
Seeing our families all together will be great- we can’t wait to for the speeches too!
6) What was it that inspired you to go for the theme or the decor you chose for your wedding?
We decided 12 weeks before the wedding that we wanted to get married sooner rather than later and wanted it to be a close intimate affair with just our immediate families which meant we could plan it quicker too. So we called the registry office and booked the date and then went from there. It also meant that we had to make quick decisions on venue and décor which worked in our favour as it meant we didn’t second guess ourselves.
The room for the Wedding Breakfast was so opulent that we didn’t want to detract away from it so we went for simple white table linen, masses of gypsophila in glass vases, and mini milk bottles with the black and white polaroid’s as favours. The jasmine votive candles set it all off perfectly too.
7) Please tell me one thing you wish you had known at the beginning of your wedding planning process, that you could pass on to future bride’s reading this blog?
Don’t try to please too many people, do what makes the two of you happy and make time for each other on the day as it passes in such a whirlwind. We really enjoyed the drive from the Town Hall to Kilworth House as we could relax a bit before continuing with the day.
8) When searching, what were you were looking for in a wedding venue?
It was the first one we called! Its near to Charlotte’s mum and dad’s which was important and we had always heard great things about Kilworth. Luckily the rooms were free on the day so we booked it straight away without even viewing it. (Luckily we fell in love with them when we saw them!)
9) Could you tell me the process you went through when you were looking for a wedding photographer?
We called a few photographers to get an idea of styles and prices but no-one stood out. Whilst scrolling through Facebook a friend had shared a wedding blog for a shoot that Duncan had done in the Jewellery Quarter and I fell in love with the style. I called Duncan straight away and miraculously he was free on our date. So happy I was mindlessly scrolling on Facebook that day!
