This was my first time photographing a wedding at Avoncroft Museum and although it was December and the depths of winter, it was absolutely gorgeous! The sun came out and gave amazing, dramatic light. It was the type of light that makes me love a winter wedding. It was stunning!
What made this wedding super special and completely unique, was not only were the bride and groom incredibly lovely, they were mad at Harry Potter! When you walked into the wedding breakfast room, you were greeted with a fireplace with letters flying out of it.
Then as I explored the table settings, I found all sorts of treasures and magical things adorning each table. It was such a great idea and of course a fantastic subject of conversation for all the guests.
One other thing that really stood out as different for me at this wedding was the model train. If you look at the photos closely, you will see there was a slight mishap with the train. Ummmmm….that would be my fault (a bit)! Well, the train driver never told me I couldn’t lean out…and of course, when I leaned out to get a better angle of Vicky & Matt, the train immediately came off the track and actually fell a couple of feet to the floor. I am so sorry Avoncroft Museum!
Fortunately, no one was hurt and the train was absolutely fine after a bit of tinkering…but my lesson has been learned for my next visit to Avoncroft!
Thank you to Vicky & Matt for inviting me to their amazing wedding. You’ll never meet a more lovely couple!! Congratulations!! 🙂
Their Love Story
1) Please tell me how you first met? The what, when, where’s and how’s?
Me and Matt 1st met through a mutual friend. I worked with Sven and a group of us were going to Alton Towers as there were 3 of us Sven said he would bring a friend, queue matt!
We had a fab day and we started to all go out as a group. 2 years later me and Matt started dating. Then he finally asked me out.. I thought we were already a couple!
2) When was it you knew they were the one?
Matt: There are lots of little things that made me realise she was the one, how well she got on with my family and how kind and caring she is
Vicky: Matts such a kind and loving man who I fell for straight away and knew quite early on he was the one, just had to wait till he asked
3) Could you give us the story of the proposal?
We had both talked about marriage but matt was determined for it to be a surprise, We had just completed on our 1st home and we were all going out for a meal to celebrate.
I went to pick Matt and his parents up and as I knocked on the door his mom told me he was at the house and there was a problem with the boiler…typical…so I raced around and when I stepped through the door there were red candles everywhere leading into the living room as I walked in matt was on one knee and says ‘so will you marry me then’ I managed to keep the tears back and I remember just hugging for ages then going out to celebrate with our families good job I said yes!
4) If you don’t mind sharing, can you tell me something quirky, funny or silly about your partner?
Vicky: Matt is such a wind-up merchant he loves to make me jump and winds me up something rotten
Matt: Vicky is crazy, she has a funny little giggle she does when she’s happy
5) What is your perfect day together?
Our perfect days differ matt has two extremes. Stay in or try to kill me doing some sort of adventure challenge (he took me canyoning!) and I like to go somewhere more low-key like the zoo but as long as we are together we are happy.
6) Apart from the obvious, what are you most looking forward to on your wedding day?
Vicky: I can’t wait to see the look on Matt’s face as I walk down the aisle. We are also looking forward to having all our family together to celebrate with us both.
Matt: I can’t wait to see Vicky walk down the aisle and get to call her my wife
7) What was it that inspired you to go for the theme or the decor you chose for your wedding?
Matt! We had joked about having a harry potter theme as we both love the films and had visited Harry Potter studios in London. It wasn’t until we went to see the bar to try the drinks that we started talking about a potion-inspired cocktail hour and then we just went from there.
8) Please tell me one thing you wish you had known at the beginning of your wedding planning process, that you could pass on to future brides reading this blog?
Be organised, and Ask for help! We made all our own invitations, the order of services and favours (choc frog boxes are hard to make) they took a long time and caused a lot of stress.
Was worth it in the end as they looked fab but if you can get people to help do it, we couldn’t have done it without our parents and bridesmaids’ help.
9) When searching, what were you looking for in a wedding venue?
We wanted somewhere different with great photo opportunities. We wanted somewhere not too far from our church with plenty of space, and somewhere interesting for people to look at while we had photos taken.
10) Could you tell me the process you went through when you were looking for a wedding photographer?
We knew we wanted someone who made us comfortable and who had stunning photos. We had looked at a few and saw Duncan at a wedding fayre.
We chose Duncan as he was the 1st photographer to show us someone’s whole album, not just the best bits. He admitted that not all his pictures were 100% perfect but they captured the moment perfectly and told the story of the day in still pictures. He manages to capture people’s true emotions and we love that.
