29th October 2012
Wedding Location: Warwick House, Southam
Rachel & Tim were such a lovely, sweet couple who were incredibly intelligent to boot. From the atmosphere on the day, you could tell they were well loved by friends and family alike. This wedding provided me with some amazing wedding photos because of its idyllic location and the great people. Warwick House is great setting for beautiful, natural wedding photography. It is tastefully decorated so wherever I point my camera there is a nice background for romantic photography.
Warwick House is located in Southam, a small market town in the Stratford-upon-Avon district of Warwickshire. Originally it was used to house an infirmary and has since been restored to an exquisite wedding venue with high standards that anyone would want on their wedding day. It features lovely gardens which are a perfect backdrop for Warwickshire wedding photography.
As with most reportage wedding photographers, [singlepic id=2172 w=450 h=300 float=right]I started with the bride, Rachel, getting ready in her room. Of course, this meant loads of photos of her and her bridal party getting their hair and makeup done. The bride getting ready room at Warwick House is very photogenic; the perfect place to capture some beautiful photos of the busy bride and bridesmaids. Unfortunately, I was constantly banging my head on the low hang beam which was literally a headache!
Another headache-causing situation was unfortunately, with the Warwickshire registrars and the rules they are duty bound to abide by. As a Warwickshire wedding photographer, you are only allowed to take minimal photos throughout the ceremony and the registrars are extremely strict about this policy. They dictate the photos to capture should only be the bride walking down the aisle, the exchanging of the rings and the kiss. I have been to many other districts where they allow you to shoot throughout the ceremony. They let you know as long as you remain in one place and are respectful, they do not mind. Even the registrars in the areas outside of Warwickshire say themselves believe the restricted photography rule is silly and cannot see why it is in place. I believe that as long as you are not being a nuisance and remain as discreet as possible, there should not be a problem. The couple is paying money for a wedding photographer such as myself to capture all the memorable moments for them so they can have these precious memories immortalised. As a photojournalistic wedding photographer, I find it extremely difficult to stop myself from capturing these special moments during the ceremony, which upsets me greatly. It was difficult for me to watch the loving glances, the tears of the mother and the proud look on Dad’s face all go undocumented due to this rule. I am absolutely positive the couple would not complain as they hired me for this exact purpose. The whole point of reportage wedding photography is to be unobtrusive in the way I capture candid events. They want me there….they know what to expect!
I was only with Rachel & Tim for half-a-day and was there up until just after the speeches. Even with a short period of time to work with and despite the challenges created by not being able to shoot through the ceremony, the photos I managed to capture were stunning and I believe illustrated the story of their day beautifully. Thank you Rachel & Tim for allowing me to witness your special day!
