Ettington Park Hotel near Stratford-upon-Avon in Warwickshire, is one of my favourite venues in the area. As a wedding photographer in Worcestershire, I love to come and visit this gorgeous, gothic hotel and it’s stunning grounds. Karen & Paul’s wedding at Ettington Park Hotel was an amazing two day event that had a real party atmosphere. The guests were all very welcoming and at ease with my presence for the entirety. One thing that was very evident to me in the time I spent with them was how close they all were to each to each other. This made for some excellent opportunities for some great reportage wedding photography. Thank you for inviting me and congratulations Karen & Paul. 🙂
Karen & Paul
1) Please tell me how you first met? The what, when, where’s and how’s?
We met through work on a building site; and to be fair I never expected that about 10 years later we would be married.
… Yes, we met looking down a muddy hole. I found out later that Paul used to laugh at how big my fluorescent site jacket was for me. Even size extra small went down to my knees.
2) When was it you knew they were the one? Was is something in particular they did?, Did they grind you down? (joke) etc. etc.
When both our previous marriages failed; and we then met up in a different context I knew immediately that we would get married. I never had any doubts about it and I think Karen felt the same way. We assumed we would get married when the time was right; and as soon as we reasonably could.
… It was just meant to be. When we were thrown together at just the right time in our lives, we were just meant to be a couple.
3) Could you give us the story of the proposal? Please leave out no details… (Was it a surprise?, Was it elaborate?, How did it make you feel?).
There was no direct proposal it’s something we naturally talked about and to be fair we both just knew it would happen.
… We knew we’d be together for ever and we talked about our wedding day from the start.
4) Please share what you most love about each other?
When people (on rare occasion) say there is nothing that they would change about their partner; I would have thought what a load of rubbish; however; I can say that is how I feel about Karen. I would say that I have quite a few more faults than her; but she understands how my mind works and fills in all the gaps I leave.
… I love how thoughtful Paul is. He genuinely cares about people. He very rarely says no to anything and goes out of his way for so many people (including me). He makes me beam.
5) If you don’t mind sharing, can you tell me something quirky, funny or silly about your partner?
Little habits, something they do… I organise events with very unrealistic deadlines and a massive volume of work; and then leave Karen to sort out every minute detail thereafter. Must drive her crackers but between us we get a lot done (through Karen).
… Paul is so dynamic and full of energy and ideas. I love everything about him. Admittedly some of his deadlines are completely crackers, but they usually involve doing nice things for special people. We generally laugh about it after the frenzy is over… I do wonder what he’s cooking up in his mind next!
6) Apart from the obvious, what are you most looked forward to the most on your wedding day?
Seeing all guests and spending a couple of days with people who we do not get much time to see or spoil. It was great to be able to look after people really well and see them relaxed.
…ditto. The whole weekend was so much fun and Ettington Park was a really special place to be with all our friends.
7) What was it that inspired you to go for the theme or the decor you chose for your wedding?
Ettington Park has stunning architecture and we wanted the flowers and the colour theme to support this building. Karen chose black table cloths/ linen to bring the light out from the black and make the fairly dark Wedding Breakfast room really light up. It worked really well.
The building and the grounds of Ettington Park are naturally stunning. I looked out of the window on our wedding day and saw deer walking across the lawns in a light flurry of snow. Amazing!
8) Please tell me one thing you wish you had known at the beginning of your wedding planning process?
Nothing at all. You get out of a Wedding/ anything what you put into the planning process and we worked really hard at trying to think about the whole event. We came out of it with no regrets whatsoever.
… The whole thing went according to plan. I wouldn’t change a thing.Â
And finally; the Album we have produced from the Wedding is fantastic and your pictures on the Website are fantastic. You were very unobtrusive and clearly a very talented photographer.
Thanks
Paul
