Warwickshire Wedding Photography at The Falcon at Hatton

It was wonderful to be invited to such a beautiful, happy Warwickshire wedding. Photographers always love a wedding with a good atmosphere, lovely surrounding and NO RAIN!! We got all three for Malley & James… Congratulations to you both! 🙂

Their Love Story

1) Please tell me how you first met?
Malley: We first met at school when we were 15. We can’t remember the first time we met exactly, but we started hanging out through mutual friends. I really liked Jim, but he wasn’t sure. Eventually, he came to his senses a couple of years later, and on St. Patrick’s Day 2002, we had our first kiss. We went our separate ways in 2006, and then eight years later in 2014 we started chatting via the wonder of Facebook. We met up for a drink, and then all was well in the world.

2) When was it you knew they were the one?
Malley: I always knew.
Jimbo: So did I.

3) Could you give us the story of the proposal?
Malley: In February, we went on a city break to Dublin. We popped in to the Temple Bar for a pint of Guinness, and I was hoping that Jim might propose, but I got a bit impatient and blurted out “Will you marry me?”, to which he replied “Yeah, go on then”. Then we did lots of smiling and popped into the gift shop next door to buy a Temple Bar fridge magnet. We didn’t tell anyone for a couple of days, apart from the man who sold us the fridge magnet, who was very happy for us.
Jimbo: I’d been spending a while trying to work up the courage/decide how to go about proposing and had been hinting (not very subtly) to Malley that she should propose as it was a leap year. Luckily she took the hint and all it took was a couple of pints of Guinness.

4) If you don’t mind sharing, can you tell me something quirky, funny or silly about your partner?
Malley: He makes me laugh every day. He is the best one.
Jimbo: Malley sings these really silly songs that she makes up on the spot. Usually about our cat Jeremy and to the tune of O Christmas Tree or London Bridge is Falling Down. They always make me smile.

5) What is your perfect day together?
Our perfect day together is waking up in a lovely hotel on holiday and finding out it’s a sunny day. Then going for a huge continental breakfast before venturing out to explore a place we don’t know. After sightseeing, we like to go back to the hotel and relax by the beach or pool on comfy sun loungers, read books, and do crosswords together. Then in the evening we like finding a lovely, cosy restaurant that serves excellent home made food, and drink and chat together.

6) Apart from the obvious, what are you most looking forward to on your wedding day?
Malley: I’m looking forward to seeing all of the plans coming together, and seeing all of our friends and family in one place. I’m also excited to see who brings what to our “non-competitive” wedding bake off.
Jimbo: Having a big family party, eating lots of cake and throwing some shapes on the dance-floor.

7) What was it that inspired you to go for the theme or the decor you chose for your wedding?
Jimbo: That’s a tricky question because we don’t really have a theme. We basically just picked a few things that we like and thought would be fun.
Malley: Pinterest was a good source of inspiration. But ultimately, decisions about decor could only be made after we’d decided on the venue. My godmother, Marion, thoroughly enjoys crafting and instantly wanted to make bunting and other decorations, so a lot of the decor decisions just happened as conversations were had. We had no set idea about what we wanted, and didn’t even decide on the flower colour until four weeks before the wedding.

8) Please tell me one thing you wish you had known at the beginning of your wedding planning process, that you could pass on to future bride’s reading this blog?
If you’re having a short engagement, be prepared for people to say “Ooh, not long! You’ve got to get cracking” or “You mean June next year, right?” and there will be many pregnancy related questions. Ignore them, and try to be as decisive as you can (otherwise other people will be).

9) When searching, what were you were looking for in a wedding venue?
We found this the most stressful part of the process. After looking at a few venues without outdoor space we realised how important it was to us to have it. We really wanted people to bring homemade cakes along, but a few venues were not happy with this. We also wanted somewhere not too stuffy and quite relaxed at a decent price. It was always going to be in Warwickshire because we knew we wanted to get married at the church in Fenny Compton, and we didn’t want a long journey between the church and reception. The Falcon at Hatton was suggested to us by a couple of people, and as soon as we found it we knew it was right… so we kissed a few frogs before we found our pub.

10) Could you tell me the process you went through when you were looking for a wedding photographer?
Jim: Malley spent ages looking at online portfolios for various photographers. I sat there mainly saying “yes dear, I agree”. When we saw Duncan’s photos we both thought that he had the sense of style and fun that we were looking for.
Malley: I typed “Warwickshire photographers” into google and looked through the first few pages of results. I narrowed it down to Duncan because his photos were stylish and beautiful. I really admired the way that even on rainy and cloudy days he had made it look as though the bad weather didn’t matter. His use of light is an art, as is his timing. I think we’re going to have a set of wedding photos to be very proud of. That’s why we went for Duncan.
