I was once again given the fantastic opportunity to photograph a wedding at the wonderful Wethele Manor in Warwickshire’s rural countryside. Each and every time I visit Wethele Manor, there is such a lovely atmosphere and the staff are always so very friendly and accommodating. You would be surprised how many venues treat photographers as an annoyance, but at Wethele, there is always a warm smile waiting for you.
I just want to say a big thank you to Jenny & Jonathan for inviting me to their amazing wedding. I will never forget the smoking tyres of the Jack Daniels truck, screaming down the road, as they both kissed as if nothing unusual was taking place. Congratulations to you both!
First of all, we can’t thank you enough for being our photographer on our wedding day; the photos are absolutely stunning, we couldn’t be more pleased. Every time I look at them I well up!
1) Please tell me how you first met?
Bahrain, Christmas Eve in the house of a Brazilian captain. It was a South American Christmas party – Jon and my brother David worked there at the time. I’d been to visit David many times as I was only in Abu Dhabi, but didn’t bump in to Jon until then.
Jon brazenly introduced himself and we got chatting on the balcony; then the vodka came, and a Santa costume…
2) When was it you knew they were the one?
I knew pretty quickly Jon was a really decent guy when we committed to traveling between Bahrain and the UAE each week. We love each other’s company.
3) Could you give us the story of the proposal?
Brugge, Belgium, half way between our two home countries. I knew a proposal was coming but it genuinely was still a surprise. Jon booked a gorgeous boutique hotel where the film ‘in Brugge’ was filmed. We went to the beer museum, dinner, more drinks…and then around 10pm got back to the hotel. I thought nothing of the red roses and champagne in the room and went to open the bottle….and Jon said ‘hang on’….and he proposed on one knee. Of course I instantly said yes.
4) Please share what you most love about each other?
Jon is just a wonderful, decent human being. He’s intelligent, driven, talented, gorgeous…he’s my best friend. Jon is always diplomatic; he has a cool temperament and keeps me grounded, always.
The things I love about Jenny are that she is caring and loving, she always makes my day a little brighter and she always give more to others than she expects back. There’s no reason not to love her.
5) If you don’t mind sharing, can you tell me something quirky, funny or silly about your partner?
Jon always rubs his fingers together and raises his hands in a Wallace (from Wallace and Gromit fame) when he doesn’t like something which makes me laugh. He always points out how I smell any food that’s new to me before putting it in my mouth!
6) What is your perfect day together?
Watching a favorite box series, the apprentice, cooking dinner. Being with family and friends if we’re in the UK or NL. Simple things.
7) Apart from the obvious, what are you most looking forward to on your wedding day?
Seeing Jon in his dapper suit and having our moment at the altar. Making sure we give our friends and family the best possible day and memories.
8) There are so many different wedding styles you can choose from. What is your favourite wedding trend at the moment?
We love the secret garden theme; low lighting, candles, lots of greenery…a magical wonderland.
9) What was it that inspired you to go for the theme or the decor you chose for your wedding?
It developed organically. As we both live in the Middle East we crave the green green grass (and trees) of home, the fresh air….so our wedding developed the theme rather than it being pre determined.
10) Please tell me one thing you wish you had known at the beginning of your wedding planning process?
How intensely wonderful it would be – for both of us, not just focus on the bride
