Getting the opportunity to be a Hindu Wedding Photographer at Dunchurch Park Hotel in Warwickshire is one thing, being that the venue is absolutely stunning! However, when you mix in everything that I witnessed at Khim and Rushen’s wedding this summer, it will indeed live long in my memory. The proceedings began first thing in the morning with the groom arriving on a beautifully decorated horse. The sun was beaming through, low in the sky and the drummers were banging out their beat. I was just stood in awe of the beauty of it all and behind my camera I was like a Cheshire Cat. I love the hustle and bustle of a Hindu Wedding. They are so vibrant, full of colour, full of life and full of fun….and lets not forget the amazing food!!
Thank you so much for inviting me Khim & Rushen. It was a truly memorable day. Congratulations!
1) Please tell me how you first met? The what, when, where’s and how’s?
KK: We met online dating, exchanged a few brief messages and had our first date at Embankment. It was a really good first date and I was glad that he asked me out again.
RP: We spent a lot of time chatting on the first date and we obviously had a great connection. I did call her Allisha for most of that date though (that’s what she told me her name was when we first met).
2) When was it you knew they were the one? Was is something in particular they did?, Did they grind you down? (joke) etc. etc.
KK: I knew I’d found someone special on our fourth date. Rushen invited me to a late night viewing of the Tate Modern, but we never made it. Instead we went to a club and didn’t stop dancing until 3am. I had such a good time!
RP: I knew on the first date that Khim could be the one. But for me as well the 4th date was when we really let our hair down for the first time. The first drink she bought me was a jaeger bomb. It was like a sign from God.
3) Could you give us the story of the proposal? Please leave out no details… (Was it a surprise?, Was it elaborate?, How did it make you feel?)
Technically it started when I booked us tickets to play Urban Golf. A few weeks before we were supposed to go, I reminded Rushen that we had the tickets. He told me that we couldn’t go because he’d booked a surprise on the same day and wanted to do that instead of playing golf. I was a bit fed up that he’d double-booked and kept trying to get him to rearrange. I’m really glad he didn’t!
We met in Hammersmith and went for great meal at the River Café. We used to live really nearby the restaurant and I’d always wanted to try it, so it was a nice surprise.
After dinner, I asked whether he wanted to go for a walk by the river, which was lucky because that’s where he’d planned to propose! I was in complete shock when he got down on one knee, so I didn’t actually hear what he’d said the first time he proposed – it took a few times of him asking me to marry him before it actually registered and I finally said yes. After that he brought out a bottle of champagne, two glasses and we celebrated by the river. It was such a good proposal.
4) Please share what you most love about each other?
KK: He’s the smartest person I know, and also the most humble.
RP: If I had to pick one, it would be how caring Khim is and how much she thinks about other people.
5) If you don’t mind sharing, can you tell me something quirky, funny or silly about your partner? Little habits, something they do…
KK: Rushen is 6ft tall, but freaks out when he sees slugs (!)
RP: Khim eats dry cornflakes pretty much every evening (and spills them all over the floor as well)
6) What is your perfect day together? (apart from the wedding day)
KK: Rushen worked abroad for a year and a half and we spent a lot of time not seeing each other/ not knowing when we’d see each other again. The day that I always think about is the day that he got back. I went to surprise him at the airport – it was so good to see him and to know that he had come back for good. We didn’t do anything in particular that day, but I’d say it was perfect.
RP: I really enjoy the days when we are totally chilled out. We don’t have anything planned and just hang out, watch movies, go for walks and grab a takeaway.
7) Apart from the obvious, what are you most looking forward to on your wedding day?
Seeing all our friends and family in one room and having a huge party.
8) There are so many different wedding styles you can choose from. What is your favourite wedding trend at the moment?
We haven’t actively followed any wedding trends, we’re having an Indian wedding so really it’s all about our friends, family and all the (many many) ceremonies that make up the day.
9) What was it that inspired you to go for the theme or the decor you chose for your wedding?
Indian weddings are already so colourful, so we don’t really need to add much to the décor. We’ve tried to keep it simple and elegant, so no particular themes or colours, but we’re doing a lot with the marquee to make it feel more intimate and cosy. So, for example, we’re adding lighting and hanging decorations. We’re also moving the bar to nearer the dance floor – our main priority is getting everyone on that dance floor!
10) Please tell me one thing you wish you had known at the beginning of your wedding planning process?
Our mum’s would do most of it!
