When I arrived at Kirtlington Park on a sunny morning in August this year, my jaw dropped at the sheer splendor and beauty of this amzing venue. I felt lucky to be able to be a Hindu wedding photographer in this Palladian mansion house in the heart of Oxfordshire. I photographed the bride’s sister’s wedding a couple of years prior to this, so it was a lovely compliment to be invited back and be included in what was another memorable day. I came away from their wedding buzzing from everything I had witnessed that day, the photographs I took and the friends I made in the process. I hope this comes across in the photos as I had absolutely fantastic day!
1) Please tell me how you first met? The what, when, where’s and how’s?
Mira and I met at our very first lecture at Birmingham university. She was a tad late (shocking ?) and thankfully chose to sit next to me and started chatting. To say I was slightly tongue tied would be a complete understatement-I’d never seen someone so beautiful before and if I’m being honest I can’t remember a word she said as I was too busy trying to not make an idiot out of myself!
2) When was it you knew they were the one? Was is something in particular they did?, Did they grind you down? (joke) etc. etc.
The initial meeting was certainly striking. We became friends and the relationship obviously started to grow. The time it became very clear to me just how special Mira is was actually following an American football injury fairly early in our relationship. I was in the queen Elizabeth hospital in Birmingham for about a week bored out of my brains. The hospital was a good 2-3 mile walk away from town- and Mira would come to visit every day and stay with me well past visiting hours having to walk home every night. It wasn’t long after that when we said I love you for the first time and the rest as they say is history.
3) Could you give us the story of the proposal? Please leave out no details… (Was it a surprise?, Was it elaborate?, How did it make you feel?)
I wanted to make the proposal very intimate and above all a surprise. Mira and I both knew where the relationship was going so the second aim was hard so I hatched a plan. After intentionally not proposing when we were away on holiday (a little too obvious and cliché plus Mira wouldn’t be able to get hold of her family to share her excitement) I decided to propose on her birthday-9th July 2013. So I wrote ‘I have something to ask you’ on the first page of her birthday card, got down on one knee whilst she turned the page to ‘will you marry me’ and then popped the ring on her finger (after a crying fit that was slightly worrying but happily they were happy tears). A pre arranged day off and fabulous lunch and dinner followed.
4) Please share what you most love about each other?
Too hard to summarise really. Mira is not only me best friend, she is also the kindest, generous and wonderful person I know. I genuinely love every thing about her.
5) If you don’t mind sharing, can you tell me something quirky, funny or silly about your partner? Little habits, something they do…
Mira is a cleaning machine and scented candle addict which can be quite entertaining. Her funniest trait is that she will occasionally get her old phrases mixed up or say something a tad daft. ‘Stop dancing around the bush and beating about the issue.’ Or my personal favourite when getting a massage, asking the masseuse, whose first language was not English to be fair, -‘ do you do head’ -brilliant
6) What is your perfect day together? (apart from the wedding day)
A lovely lazy Sunday together
7) Apart from the obvious, what are you most looking forward to on your wedding day?
Just sharing the big day with everyone and seeing Mira in her wedding outfits.
8) There are so many different wedding styles you can choose from. What is your favourite wedding trend at the moment?
Classic elegance-non ostentatious
9) What was it that inspired you to go for the theme or the decor you chose for your wedding?
It was really built around the venue and Mira’s favourite colour scheme
10) Please tell me one thing you wish you had known at the beginning of your wedding planning process?
Try as you might you can’t do it on a budget so just relax and accept it!
