This was my very first time photographing a wedding at Old Gore by Yard Space. When I photographed this wedding in particular, Old Gore had only been open for business for a short while. I think they had performed a minor miracle ensuring the venue was up to spec. It…is…gorgeous!! The level of detail was outstanding. I think my words do not do it justice when I say it’s the perfect wedding barn venue.
The light in the barn for the wedding (see below) seems like it is straight out of a movie set. I was like a kid in a sweet shop photographing their wedding ceremony.

The space provided for the drinks reception is just right. The courtyard area corrals everyone together, which creates a much better atmosphere and consequently helps my wedding photography. If people are able to be attracted to wander off too much, it can kill the vibe. This does not happen here. As for the wedding breakfast, I think you will agree, the room looks absolutely stunning. I do love banquet-style seating arrangements at a wedding. You can create such a lovely sense of depth in your wedding photography. It is also very easy to wander around unnoticed…so that makes me happy!
The wedding itself was so much fun to witness. They were a terrific bunch of people, really friendly. I knew a few of them from previous weddings, so it was really easy to slip into and mix with them. Also, there was a good level of similarly aged people there, so there was a lot of laughter and smiling. I love this!
I would like to wish B&J a wonderful life together and thank you for inviting me to their big, super awesome day!

1) Please tell me how you first met?
We met ‘virtually’ after being pushed together by some mutual friends and then went on a date a week later. Although a little awkward, as I had a one-way flight booked to Australia for 10 weeks later, so the timing wasn’t ideal but we took a chance.

2) When was it you knew they were the one?
I don’t think it was anything in particular but I think knowing we would potentially be apart for an extended period of time made us a little more invested and then deciding to try long distance, we both knew.

3) Could you give us the story of the proposal?
It was low-key, at home, a few days into the first lockdown (we should have been in Marrakech for my 30th) and exactly as I’d hoped it would be… just about us.

4) If you don’t mind sharing, can you tell me something quirky, funny or silly about your partner?
I don’t think either of us would know where to start with this… it would probably turn into an essay.

5) What is your perfect day together?
Two things that are never negotiable, good coffee and good food, but usually walking boots on and enjoying being outside.

6) Apart from the obvious, what are you most looking forward to on your wedding day?
Celebrating with all our family and friends.

7) What was it that inspired you to go for the theme or the decor you chose for your wedding?
We picked our favourite colours and things that we liked.

8) Please tell me one thing you wish you had known at the beginning of your wedding planning process that you could pass on to future brides reading this blog?
Share jobs/tasks, it can feel really overwhelming at times but is so much easier when you work together. Don’t worry about what other people think, as long as you’re both happy with your decisions. Don’t be too much of a control freak- trust that the vendors you’ve picked are experts in their field.

9) When searching, what were you were looking for in a wedding venue?
I was a little bit specific with a venue that I didn’t want something too formal/stuffy and a bit more of a relaxed vibe without compromising on a beautiful/rural location. We stumbled upon Old Gore by Yard Space during lock down. We went to view the venue when it was still a building site, in the rain. however, we could see the potential and knew it was perfect for us.

10) Could you tell me the process you went through when you were looking for a wedding photographer?
This we found really quite difficult, as when we started looking it took us quite a while to find someone whose ‘vibe’ we really liked and thought suited us. We were drawn to Duncan Cox Photography‘s style because it didn’t look forced/staged and was much more natural than others we found. We then realised he’d done some of our friend’s family’s weddings and they gave us brilliant feedback, so we knew he was who we wanted.
