As usual, Wethele Manor (near Leamington Spa in Warwickshire) outdid themselves for Gemma & Sam’s wedding and put together a fantastic day for them and all their guests to enjoy. Everytime I shoot at Wethele Manor, there is a wonderful atmosphere and I have a great experience shooting there. Perhaps it is being such a relaxed, farmhouse setting or being in the midst of beautiful countryside. Whatever it is it seems to work and any Warwickshire wedding photographer would be happy to shoot there!
I started with Gemma preparing for her big day in the Wethele Room (I love this room for its gorgeous light!). Her bridesmaids were very attentive, buzzing around her and ensuring she was absolutely perfect for the big moment. I think they did a wonderful job as they were all looking truly fantastic by the time they were ready.
I think what I would take away from this wedding was how much love everyone had for Gemma & Sam, and indeed, they had for each other. This manifested itself several times throughout the day as I witnessed many, many tears and large amounts of tissue being used. For me, it is always special to see such feelings come to the surface and to be given the honour of documenting it is always appreciated and I never take it for granted. Congratulations Gemma & Sam! ?
1) Please tell me how you first met? The what, when, where’s and how’s?
At Warwick Medical School although properly met on a night out in Leamington after exams (January 2008).
2) When was it you knew they were the one? Was is something in particular they did?, Did they grind you down? (joke) etc. etc.
I realised over time that I couldn’t imagine not being with Gem so proposing wasn’t scary or a difficult decision to make.
3) Could you give us the story of the proposal? Please leave out no details… (Was it a surprise?, Was it elaborate?, How did it make you feel?)
It was a surprise. We took a picnic to Charlecote Park in July 2013 (really lovely summers day). I suggested we went on a little walk and came across a fallen tree. There was no one else around (which suited me!) and I got down on one knee and asked the question. We then had dinner and stayed the night at Ettington Park Hotel and enjoyed telling our friends and family the good news. It was an amazing day!
4) Please share what you most love about each other?
Make each other laugh. Help each other de-stress when we have had a bad day.
5) If you don’t mind sharing, can you tell me something quirky, funny or silly about your partner? Little habits, something they do…
Gemma always looks like she is frowning when she is concentrating or reading – it looks quite cute!
6) What is your perfect day together? (apart from the wedding day)
Lazy morning. Nice coffee. Walk into town or to a pub. Catching up with friends. Any day where we are both off work!
7) Apart from the obvious, what are you most looking forward to on your wedding day?
Having all of our friends and family in one place. Breaking out our top secret first dance!
8) There are so many different wedding styles you can choose from. What is your favourite wedding trend at the moment?
We are not very trendy! We wanted something more classic than what seems to be on trend at the moment, i.e. rustic/vintage.
9) What was it that inspired you to go for the theme or the decor you chose for your wedding?
Gemma wanted blue bridesmaid dresses and everything sort of fitted around that. Can’t quite remember where the peach came from! Sarah King (bridesmaid and graphic design extraordinaire) came up with wedding invites which became the basis for the theme.
10) Please tell me one thing you wish you had known at the beginning of your wedding planning process?
No matter how long the engagement is, it will always be a rush at the end!
