Please tell us how you first met.
We met indirectly through Match.com We wouldn’t have met on Match as Richard was a little outside my 50-mile exclusion zone. But I’d signed up for free to the Match sister site, Match Affinity and his profile looked appealing so I messaged him. Not realising he’d have to pay to join Match Affinity in addition to Match before he could reply.😊 Best 80 quid he ever spent🤣🤣

When was it you knew they were the one?
There was an instant attraction – always a good sign. Then on our second date, we spent the day together at Kew Gardens before heading off to see ‘Fat Freddy’s Drop’ at the O2 in Brixton. He held my hand all the way around Kew Gardens, which I thought was lovely.

Could you give us the story of the proposal?
We started talking about marriage after we’d been together maybe a year. At that point, I was quite keen on a civil partnership, whereas Richard had moved on from a long marriage a few years previously and would have been quite happy just living together. It came to a head some months later, when he asked me to move to Stratford upon Avon, and I said no. We were apart for a year and a bit, though we stayed in touch and met up from time to time. Our continuing affection for each other became clearer over the months. He actually proposed in a late-night email🤣 writing ‘So for effect, I have just got onto my knees to type the last couple of paragraphs.’ And then again in person when we met up a few days later. Very romantic.

If you don’t mind sharing, can you tell me something quirky, funny or silly about your partner?
Lots of quirkiness to being a board game designer. Like spending hours sorting out little wooden animeeples!
Penny must have the same mugs for each of her numerous regular hot drinks throughout the day.

What is your perfect day together?
Walking in nature, and taking a picnic. Or spending time with family or close friends, inevitably involving some board or card games.

Apart from the obvious, what are you most looking forward to on your wedding day?
Bringing all our lovely friends and family together, and the drumming workshop. It should be lots of fun😃

What was it that inspired you to go for the theme or the decor you chose for your wedding?
It was obvious.
The venue Talton Lodge has its own rustic charm and the wedding theme is along similar lines. Penny sweetly suggested a board game theme also as I am immersed in board games. The wedding cake will have a woodland theme, which is the theme of the game my company, R&D Games, Published in 2023.

Please tell me one thing you wish you had known at the beginning of your wedding planning process, that you could pass on to future brides reading this blog.
Enjoy the process. If your first and second choice suppliers aren’t available the third will likely be perfect – as they were for us with the cake maker and florist.

When searching, what were you looking for in a wedding venue?
I first visited Talton Lodge when I went with some friends for a Stratford upon Avon Extinction Rebellion (XR ) meeting – and instantly thought it would make a lovely venue for a wedding. Richard agreed, and then we discovered we had to hire the venue for the weekend! It allowed us to spend loads more time with family and friends, which was lovely.

Could you tell me the process you went through when looking for a wedding photographer?
I started by asking a couple of (female) friends from Oxford (where I used to live). I’d initially wanted a woman, but the next few I looked at were either also busy or not really suitable. Settled on your good self. No regrets there. Thanks so much, Duncan, we love the pictures.
