A year in the life of a Worcestershire Wedding Photographer

Well…2014 was a big year personally and professionally. At the beginning of the year, we decided that it was best for our little family to be closer to family. We were living in some beautiful Warwickshire countryside with fabulous views from the rear of our house. The tradeoff was that we were, quite literally, out in the sticks. While Jo, Myself and our dog Baxter loved it, we were concerned by the lack of things to do for our boys. They seemed to be festering a little, and we felt a change was needed. The big decision almost made itself, and just like that, I was a Worcestershire Wedding Photographer living in Pershore. We have lived in Pershore for a year now, and we could not be happier. It is a gorgeous Georgian town that is small enough to still have that village feel to it. People you have never met before will stop and talk to you in the street. I am a bit of a country boy, so I love this! Although it was difficult for the boys initially, they have fitted in really well at nursery school absolutely love it too…
Another big change for me in 2014 was my move from Canon to Fujifilm. This was not a move I made lightly, as I had spent the previous 6 years as a wedding photographer building up my kit, until only a few months before the change, I was satisfied I had the best kit I could have. Unfortunately, this gear was LARGE, HEAVY and CUMBERSOME. It was also leaving me feeling like an old man after every wedding, as I was getting sore hips and shoulders from lugging this gear around for hours on end. The fact is, Canon seems to be dragging its heels with research and development and is treading water at the moment. Fujifilm’s X-T1 cameras are bang up to the minute in terms of technology help me get shots I was never able to with my Canons. This gear helps me be more precise in my work and more definite in my decision-making. In a way that was not possible pre-Fuji.The fact that they are half the size (and half the weight) also means I am less conspicuous and get noticed less when I am working. The image quality is out of this world too! While it took a little getting used to (as any big change does), there is NO way I would go back.

I know we are a month into 2015 already, but I have finally managed to find the time to put together a blog showing my highlights of what was a fantastic year. The wedding photography in this blog is entirely shot on Fuji X cameras, with the majority being my X-T1’s. I hope you enjoy! 🙂
